Notes:
AST5255 provides a method of setting the crankshaft and camshaft position without the need to remove the aluminium camshaft casing and the fuel injection system from the engine. The inlet camshaft tool simply slots into position on the camshaft through an aperture in the aluminium camshaft casing, the exhaust camshaft tool locates in the rear of the camshaft in place of the vacuum pump.
The camshaft setting tools can be used to simply check the camshaft timing position. They may also be used to set the camshaft position during belt replacement procedures, however additional disassembly may be required to overcome the access limitations caused by the flanged edges of the camshaft sprockets. Additional engine disassembly may include the removal of the aluminium camshaft casing that provides the camshaft setting location.
Note: Camshaft setting tools are not intended for use as a counter hold when removing and installing the camshaft sprocket bolts during belt replacement procedures.
